Tania Bruguera was born on July 18th, 1968, in Havana, Cuba. She is a performance and installation artist, with many of her works centered around the ideas of power and politics, as well as ideas of social injustice and activism.
Bruguera graduated from la Escuela de Arte San Alejandro in Havana, 1987, where she received her BFA in fine arts. She went on to receive her Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) from el Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana, in 1992. In 2001, Bruguera would receive her MFA in performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
